Honestly an easy pick for me. It’s Barbie. Greta hasn’t missed and the last few Nolan movies just didn’t quite do it for me, but I’m optimistic about this one!
I've only seen Indiana Jones on this list so far. It was a fun movie and a good end to his part of the franchise. I rather hope that the completely end it but half expect them to continue with Helena taking the reins as the artifact rescuer and, what, communist plan wrecker (nazis really are so 1940s, after all).
Hi Jean, my ranking is not based on box office gross, but on my experience with the movie. I haven't seen Sound of Freedom which is why it isn't on the list! But looking at BoxOfficeMojo which is a website that tracks how much money movies make, Sound of Freedom is the 22nd highest grossing film domestically so far in 2023. Impressive! Have you seen it and did you like it?
Yes I have seen it. A wake up call to a tragedy that needs exposure. Unfortunately some progressives are trying to taint it with untruths. If you decide to go bring Kleenex
I’m glad it was made. I did some googling and it looks like it grossed the most of any movie, including Indiana Jones, on the 4th of July. Impressive and appropriate I think.
"The film is controversial because the man the movie is about, former Homeland Security operative Tim Ballard, and the actor who plays him, Jim Caviezel, both have links to QAnon. Ballard has promoted the baseless claim that furniture retailer Wayfair was involved in child trafficking."
Others note that while the film itself sanitizes these references, Caviezel has been pretty flagrant in his references in interviews with people like Steve Bannon, where "he’s parroted falsehoods about Pizzagate and other underground cells subsisting on human blood, all of it pointing back to a foundation of conspiratorial thought targeting the Jewish and transgender communities."
Also a note about the box office, we are seeing several indications that these numbers are coming from wealthy conservative donors, or by encouraging passionate patrons to purchase more tickets at the end of the movie. This has led to many other conspiratorially minded people showing up to "sold out" showings where they are the only people in the theater.
Kyle, to learn about what a large part of the media is saying about the movie “Sound of Freedom” and the negativity, check YouTube “George the Giant Slayer” expose. It is sickening to realize how much for lack of a better word that evil is alive and well . My first response it to be angered but then I realize how ppl have lost their souls. I urge you to see it. Will be interested in your thoughts.
I also was stunned by how much I liked Transformers. It’s kind of crazy how much fun it was.
Spidey feels like it will definitely be staying in Top 10 for me by the end of year, but there’s still a lot of good ones to come.
Which brings us to the most important question of the year, maybe even the decade: what will you be seeing first: Barbie or Oppenheimer?

You have not mentioned “Sound of Freedom”. My understanding this is the top box office draw above the monies you have seen. Please help me understand.

Jean
I really liked Air.
I’m excited to see Mission Impossible.
I’ve seen Elemental and while I wouldn’t classify it as a Disney classic, I thought it was pretty good and had some really good themes/lessons.
I hated Spider-Man tho—it was just too weird for me. I didn’t like the “spiderverse” concept or the animation style at all.
Hate...such a strong word!
