As a tall guy who gets that "can you reach that for me" request a lot, I'm really annoyed I never came up with a book franchise off of it. My wife and I liked the series but I've never read any of the books.
I also found the season to be surprisingly personal for Reacher, with the whole brother storyline. I haven't read the book so I am not sure if that tracks, but it adds a layer of stakes that haven't been there for some of the other Reacher books I've read.
And no, I doubt we would have mission 5, 6, and 7 without Jack Reacher. Jack McQuarrie says he and Cruise learned so much about shooting action together on that film that they have brought to the later mission entries, especially the car chases.
The brother stuff is in the book and it's excellent but I agree, powerful in the show with Ritchson's performance (I'm thinking of one scene in particular where it stays in close up while he walks outside) and the flashbacks. No flashbacks in the book.
And I do love that Jack Reacher car chase - one of the best! Especially the end of it :)
Jack Reacher? More like Jacked Reacher. Am I right?

Once you read a few they start to feel repetitive, but I am looking forward to Bad Luck & Trouble, which is the book season 2 will be based on.
