Oh my gosh, I didn't know The Wonder movie was out already! I've been waiting for it! It's actually one of my favorite books ever, but I first listened to it on audio and was absolutely enthralled. I do agree it's not as fast-paced as a modern-set thriller or anything, but the challenges of science v. religion and feeling like an outsider stuck with me so much, and I am very excited to see Florence Pugh in the movie.
Hi Kyle. Yes, your review that it was a slow read is what turned me away. I have little time to read, so when I do... it needs to be enthralling. If ever I take time off to kick back and relax, I would consider something more along those lines. Will keep you posted about the movie!
Loved reading Crawdads - haven't watched the movie and, based on this assessment, will not. I first read Rebecca in my teens and really enjoyed it. Subsequent readings as I got older unravelled more nuances I had not previously noticed. I've put the Hitchcock version on my "must view" list for the holidays, and for the heck of it, will watch the remake... to compare. As to the The Wonder, this review has removed any inclination I may have had to read it.
Hi Nadine! I love that you've re-read Rebecca at different ages, that sounds like an enlightening experience. I am excited to hear about your movie comparison, come on back here to share that!
I feel a little bad for discouraging you from reading a book. What exactly about my review of The Wonder turned you off? That it was slow, or something else?

Cassie! This is great. Would love to chat more about it!

The recent Rebecca adaptation definitely turned me away from the book 🤮, but with this rave review maybe I’ll give it a chance!
The other two I have not seen OR read. But sounds like I don’t necessarily need to add to my list.
Rebecca is good. Would make a fun book club book.
Thanks for the comment :)
