Kyle, nothing wrong with reevaluating a book. Glad you’re enjoying the story. Personally, I didn’t think the show was groundbreaking. Haven’t read the book, so can’t compare. The time differences between the two worlds didn’t add up, ours steadily progressing in tech, the other moving in what must be huge spurts and yet can’t counter. I get that hope is necessary element to the story, otherwise why read/watch? I just didn’t buy into the reason for hope.
Thanks Geoff. I agree the show wasnt ground breaking but what they’ve depicted so far is only about 8% of the full story in the books. There’s a lot of great stuff still to come!
The time differences made sense to me in this way: The aliens had more advanced tech than humans, but they had to leave their home system and travel to our solar system, which would take 400 years. During that travel time, they didn’t want human technology to advance. So they jam human progress (essentially stranding humans at its current tech level) so that they could easily conquer us on arrival in 400 years. That’s how I understood it but maybe I’m still missing something.
If you’re a sci fi fan I definitely recommend the books!
Glorious revision of the previous post. I am overjoyed.
I won't be sleeping through season 2!
