Most Anticipated Movies of Summer 2024
#153: Sequels, legasequels, prequels, and a few originals. Sounds like summer!
Well, well, well, it is summer movie season once again. I know technically it is still spring, but The Fall Guy is out now and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes releases this weekend, so according to Hollywood it’s summertime.
Below I’ve ranked the movies I’m most excited to see this summer. What are you looking forward to?
A Quiet Place Day One (June 28) — The first movie freaked me out but also left me perplexed. Par 2 was slightly better. The draw of this franchise was small scope, remote setting, and the factions of survivors that knew they had to be quiet or die. This appears to be a much larger, louder, and typical monster invasion movie; A Quiet Place in name only.
Hit Man — Adrian Arjona took my breath away in Andor and I can’t wait to see her team up with Glen Powell in what appears to be a dark comedy about a fake hit man. Alliances appear to be shifty but not the chemistry between these two leads.
Deadpool & Wolverine (July 26) — It’s Deadpool and Wolverine and that’s all that needs to be said.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (May 10) — This franchise peaked at the first one, but the others are by no means “bad.” The technology has made a lot of progress since 2011 and even 2017 which means apes on horses is going to look better than ever.
Twisters (July 19) — Yep, I’m one of those kids who watched Twister so many times he memorized it. I’m not sure why I was obsessed with this movie, but it had the “Top Gun effect” where I was convinced that if I wasn’t a storm chaser, I’d have a boring career. In a word: “FOOOOOOOOOD.”
Inside Out 2 (June 14) — I love taking the kids to the theater but don’t love the minions and despicable mes of children’s entertainment. I’m hoping if Pixar took the time to create a sequel to Inside Out, it means they have something meaningful to say.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (May 24) — One of my major regrets in life is not seeing Mad Max: Fury Road in the movie theater. I can make amends in a few weeks with this origin story for the best character in that movie, Imperator Furiosa. Will it be as good, as thrilling, as moving? Not a chance, but even if it only gets close it will be better than most movies.
The Fall Guy (May 3) — Gosling and Blunt, two huge stars who were in two of the biggest movies last summer, are back in what appears to be a stunt-filled rom-com. Stunts and romantic comedy are my Venn diagram and I’m so excited to see this tonight!
Those are the movies I’m looking forward to, how about you? What am I missing on my list?
Thanks for reading,
Kyle

Had such a fun time with Fall Guy and CANNOT WAIT for Twisters. It's the first time a reboot doesn't look extremely soulless/hopeless
Besides some notable omissions, I am afraid I must take umbrage with the comment about the Apes franchise: 'This franchise peaked at the first one, but the others are by no means “bad.”'
Do you mean the literal first one? Or Rise of the Planet of the Apes? In either case, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes isn't just a peak for the franchise, it might be in the conversation for one of the best sequels of all time.
