We're most of the way through the series, and I haven't read the books, but I do understand where you're coming from, especially with Auggie's character. I did see the other day that Prime has an earlier Asian adaptation of the book, Three Body (I think). That may be worth a side quest.
We just finished the episode with the nanowires meeting up with the ship - gore doesn't bother me much but that was a disturbing scene, probably because no one escapes. No one, and you know what I mean. I'm very interested to see how the rest of the series goes, and appreciate your follow up to the review. I normally only watch sci-fi rather than read it, but this trilogy may be an exception.

I don’t have prime video right now but I think the side quest (I love how you put that!) will be necessary in the future.
