This is why I love video games! so immersive and it’s a different kind of storytelling. I’ve had my fair share of emotional video games but thanks for warning us about the Last of Us with this review. 😂
The Last Campfire and Arise: A simple Story. They’re both chill puzzle games but the story line deals with grief, losing the love of your life, depression, and finding the light in the darkness of times. it was such a good experience playing those two games.
If I hadn't already played (and loved) this game, this review would make me want to play it more! Everything you say is true, but that's exactly what I'm looking for. I want art to challenge me and make me feel things, even if it's extreme and uncomfortable. And the way it pushes those buttons also became thought provoking for me, ultimately leading to insights and catharsis and pain, and if that's not the greatest endorsement of a piece of media, then I don't know what is.
Obviously the subject matter is mature. It's violent, it's tough. But it also happens to be one of the most immersive media experiences I have ever had in any medium.
I've revisited Last of Us Part 1, dozens of time. It's one of my favorite games of all time. I've yet to go back to Part II because of this exact thing. I loved it, but it was very emotionally draining, and I just haven't been in that mindset. I want to play again before the nest TV season comes out, but it is dread inducing.
Someone else said it in the comics, but it's why I love video games. It's the most immersive storytelling I've felt. What Remains of Edith Finch, Firewatch, Hellblade, The Walking Dead: All some of my favorite immersive storytelling in games, they just hit different.

Hi Jam! I'd love to hear your recommendations for other emotional video games. Just in case I need them someday :)

And this is why I stick with cozy games 🤭. Kirby all the way!

I can’t decide if this makes me want to play it more or less!
Then my work here is done. Let me know if you ever try it :)
